Golden Shoe breakfast and meeting Royston
Morning as promised to bring my Mum to try the Lor Mee at Golden Shoe hawker centre. Feeling tired of eating the Lor Mee sold at my house although its very famous. Felt that the standard dropped.
Reached Golden shoe and still not yet lunch time so there was no queue. Order $3 Kway Teow Been Hoon and $2 Lor Mee.
"Warning the $2 portion is equal to $3 selling at other place. Imagine order $3."
The stall is owned by an elderly couple, so they sell things very chin chai. Customer eat happy can already.

Look at the large piece of fried stuff.

The bowl consists generous amount of fish, pork and meatballs plus a dash of black vinegear YUMMY!!! Must try
After meal my mum went home while I headed to Orchard to meet Royston. On the bus called him and found him still sleeping instead of visting the dentist.
Reached Orchard carrying the bulky camera drybox around. Went around and was surprised to see the shopping centres quite crowded although it was a weekday noon. Soon Royston reached and we decided to walk around.
Royston has not had lunch yet and recommended eating noodles at Far East. We reached far east and walk around and saw at the corner many food outlet. There were stalls selling snacks from Taiwan, UK, Hong Kong and Singapore Ya Kun. We decided to try the food sold as UK hawker stuff. They sold 4 main items. Spicy curry chicken, Beer Battered Fish, Marsh Potatoes and Cheese Sausage and Fried MARS ice-cream.
The beer battered fish come in sauce, salt vinegar and tomato and mayo. I choose salt and vinegar. At the cost of $4.60 it comes with many pieces of fish. Well i can't taste the beer and can't tell what is the fish but the salt and vinegar seasoning is good man.

Beer Battered Fish with in salt and vinegar seasoning.
Royston then ordered Mashed Potatoes with cheese sausage. The sausage is big and tasty. The mashed potatoes are also well prepared.

Royston enjoying the sausage.

Very nice must try, though i don't like potatoes.
After eating we went around those hobby shops selling action figurines. Quite surprised to see alot of these stuff are small yet so expensive. Guess expensive due to their limited stock and level of detailing.
Later decided to try the noodles he recommended. Its one of the stall selling muslim food. Still feeling very full after eating the fish. We ordered the Hotplate Seafood noodles. The serving is very little, the copoking style is like your zi char Ee Mee, just that under the base they put alot of eggs.

The delicious Hot plate seafood noodles.

Royston enyoing his noodles.

Yummy Mee Siam
My favourite dishes.
1)Chicken rice
2)Hor Fun
3) Mee Siam
Chicken rice you think very easy to cook. Ya alot of stalls sell chicken rice but good ones are hard to find. Even those very popular and appeared on tv, I tried also not very nice. I prefer roast chicken than white and being influenced by my mum I hate breast meat. We love to suck on the bones, don't like the meaty feeling. In SG you eat chicken till you are sick. In Taiwan i can eat chicken for every meal and crave for more. Think the chicken in SG very lousy quality.
Hor Fun, fried kway teow cooked with prawns, squid, pork and chye sim. For $3-$4 you can have a filling meal compared to a measly bowl of wanton mee. For a good hor fun, they kway teow must be fried till there's soya sauce smell and the seafood must be fresh. Added a little green chili to accentuate the taste and you have an appetising hor fun.
Mee Siam. I don't know the orgin whether from Malays or Indians. Its fried beehoon with a hot and spicy gravy topped with an egg. Simple dish eh. WRONG! the more simple dish the more diffcult it is to prepare. My mum always say the mee siam outside lacked standards. The gravy is less thick and more sourish as more assam being used.
Criteria for good mee siam.
Gravy must be thick with lots of peanuts, and taste sour, hot and spicy.
I love sour food so Mee Siam is one of my liking.
Can't remember when I started eating Mee Siam and how my mum learnt to cook Mee Siam. But my Mum's Mee Siam is the best in the world !!!
Tasted and Proven by my relatives and friends.
The Qi Ji franchise selling Mee Siam, Nasi Lemak and Poh Piah also not bad.
The Poh Piah is damn good. Always ordered at Sim Lim Square food court before they had franchise. But damn exp for 1 roll.
Some Ingredients needed to cook a heavenly tasting mee siam.
1) Heavenly cook.
2) Bee Hoon
3) Assam for the sour taste
4) Balachan chili
5) grated peanut
6) coconut milk
7) tau pok
8) sugar
9) tau jiu( fremented bean).
10)Koo Cai( this vegetable looks like spring onion but its flat).
Eat i know, assist can, cook NO LOL!!!

The cook.

Mama mia !!!

Delicious bowl of heart warming mee siam. (PS: My mum added too much chili and I had been visiting the toilet for a few days.

MaMa's Day
Last Sunday was Mother's Day. Again headache don't know where to eat sure full unless you reserved earlier. Wanted to try Kim Gary at Vivocity but called them and was informed they don't reserve table. I chose Vivocity cause my mum haven't been there and my 3rd auntie and Grandmother stayed near there, so traveling is easier.
Invited my 3rd auntie, 2nd auntie and grandma so that they could enjoy a good meal with us. Also another way of thanking them for the care and concern for my mum when she was in hospital. I don't earn alot but simple meal as appreciation and sincerity is all that counts.
In the end managed to book a table at Roland Restaurant again, yes its seafood again.
Met them 6pm at Marine Parade.
Reached Roland not packed with few tables occupied. I guess the crowd like come later. I ordered :
1) Yam Basket with prawns
2) Ee Fu Mee (My auntie order, I dun like noodles).
3) Honey Glazed Pork Ribs( Pai Gu Wang replaced Gu Lu Rou)
4) 2 Tomato crabs
5) 2 Chilli Crabs
6) Steamed Kim Ba Lor( Seabass my favourite dish).
7) 4 Man Tou (For dipping the crab sauce).
8) 3 Mango Pudding
Yam Basket not bad, got prawns, cashew nuts, mushrooms, carrots ... But I don't like the taste if Yam.
Ee Fu Mee really small plate how to share with 6 people. I didn't try much as don't like noodles. Especially those used in Lor Mee I HATE THE MOST. Thats why i only eat Lor Kway Teow Bee Hoon.
Pai Gu Wang first time try not bad taste like sweet & sour pork but not red in color.
Tomato crabs for me and my sister. Chili crabs for the adults. Anyway Roland is the founder of Chili Crabs. The Chili sauce not very spicy as expected.
My Favourite Kim Ba Lor aka Seabass. Can't forget the freshness when i ate last time. The freshness and sweetness of the meat with the salty yet light sauce a harmonious combination. This timed order preapred in HK steam style. My fish was smaller this time abit disappointing, but the taste is better.
Man tou i guess is their top dish, waited so long to dip with the crab sauce. We almost finished the crab when the buns came. The buns here are X2 bigger than the 1 i had at Turf City. The taste roughly the same sweet.
Mango Pudding can't tell much about the taste as already full.

Why only 1 photo? Before I can take photo of the dishes, they are already gone, so can only take photo of this Tomato crab.

Ong Lye still the same
Last Friday had dinner with Benson, Jimmy and Kelvin.
Been along while since i last met Kelvin as he joined the Navy as regular and is always out at the seas sailing. Was surprised to see not much change in him still very funny and big bums.
Met them at Bugis and was clueless where to eat. Decided to eat at Ma Maison again but then got long queue, so decided to eat at the Japanese restaurant opposite.
Bad Choice
It was already quite late 830pm, but still crowded. I really hated it when the restaurant menu don't indicate their house specialty or Chef's recommendations very hard to choose what food to order. In the end Kelvin ordered some dish with a small pot of soup, Benson ordered an unagi bento, I ordered some grilled chicken with rice with the waitress recommendations. Kelvin also ordered a plate of sushi and soft shell crab.

Kelvin's order some soup and horrible sushi.

Benson's order Unagi bento.

My order Grilled Chicken with rice, nothing fantastic.
Kelvin's sushi was so horribly done. When it was being served the rice break apart. I mean yes its not a very expensive restaurant but surely the food deserves some quality. I think after that meal Kelvin still hungry.
Benson's rice was shaped into a Star and after eating he commented the food was not bad. I guess he is lying as he is a Japanese cuisine critic. He always tell us where Japanese food nice.
My order like eating Grilled Chicken with soya sauce. Not very delicious yet expensive. $17 for my order. A chicken chop with fried rice and coleslaw sold at NCS canteen costs only $4 and the chicken is bigger than the plate.
Total bill around $96.
I think other outlets taste better.
It was fun listening Kelvin telling stories about his life in Navy. He was really a joker back then in 3 Sig. After dinner Jimmy wanted to bring us to Timbre to chill out. This Timbre is a outdoor restaurant located next to the old National Library. Now the new Orchard tunnel. The place is rather new and there was a long queue. Alot of young people and working adults hang around here listening to the live band. We decided to leave as the next day Kelvin need to go back camp and Benson had to work. Later we decided to visit Cosplay Cafe at Chijmes again.
Reached there thought of watching TV, but they removed the screen. Benson and Kelvin ordered a bottle of Heinkein while i ordered a Carona. Sitting towards the 3 entrance are 3 hot babes. Upon closer inspection i guess they are transversites (ah qua), as their boobs are too big and wore very revealing haha! Seems like my guess was correct they were soliciting for customers. We saw one of them approached a Caucasian and left, while the 2 of them are trying.
So before we left , we wanted to take some photos with the waitress of Cosplay cafe.
NAH GPGT ALL YOU DESPOS LOL!

Kelvin and me

F4 LOL!

Benson favourite. I dun like too childish.

She was supposed to stand between us.

Happy Birthday Mama
Mama birthday on 30th April. That day I am working and she busy.
So decided to celebrate her birthday on Sunday 29th.
Craving for Japanese food.
But sis hadn't try Cafe Cartel's ST Louis Pork Ribs.
Mum say anything.
So i told her lets go Little India eat curry. Kidding my mum is afraid of eating muslim and indian food, because of their herbs and spices.
Decided to go Bugis and see as there are many restaurants and same time try my Capitaland Card.
Remembered got 1 Japanese restaurant tuck at corner of level. Located near Billy Bombers. Never tried before because the decor looks posh.
We reached "Ma Maison" but there was a short queue waiting. The Japanese waitress told me need to wait for 30mins but my mum say ok.
I said i wanted to eat Jap food right?
Ma Maison is actually a Japanese fusion with French restaurant.
The Japanese restaurant opposite Ma Maison is a pure Japanese restaurant offering bento sets.
30mins later we came back.
The restaurant is rather small can sit less than 100 diners. But the decor inside is very cosy. They put curtains on the windows, a nice looking lamp on each table, vintage posters and pots and pans hang around the walls. The decor is like those cottages in Europe.
I wonder what's Japanese about this restaurant.
The waitresses are Japanese
The menu is Japanese.
Thats all LOL!
Only 20% of their menu consists Japanese cuisine, like OMU rice, Japanese curry rice.
I ordered French Escargot, Italian Pasta in white sauce, Tuna and prawn salad, Spanish seafood rice Paella, American apple crumble pie and ice-cream.
The only Japanese food i had was the 3 for $2.20 takopachi bought at the basement.

Their specialty dishes.

Must try to see why the French eat snails.

Escargots cooked in Garlic butter. 6pcs for $9.50. Must try the meat taste like those shellfish. Nearly ordered another plate, cos the Garlic butter is NICE!!!

Tuan and Prawn salad with Japanese dressing.

Au Gratin with Prawn: Its pasta of the seashell shapes baked with cheese and white sauce. DAMN NICE!!!

Spanish Paella Seafood Platter rice
Compared to Fish & Co its cheaper but smaller serving, but they give generous amount of seafood, even got 1 Abalone. Don't like the rice very nua, soggy.

You are given this key to make your payment
